Earlier this week my debut novel, RESET, made Amazon’s best seller list!
- #1 in Science Fiction Romance
- #2 in Dystopian Science Fiction
- #2 in Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction
- #2 in Romantic Action & Adventure
- #9 in Science Fiction
- #134 in Kindle Store
To say it was a surprise is an understatement. I sat in silence for a good five minutes, unsure whether it was real. I refreshed the website over and over again to see if it was a glitch. It was not.
As an author, you hope your book will be read. At least by your family and friends. At the most by someone famous who will tell all their famous friends about your book. But more realistically, you just want it to be read by strangers who are not obligated to like your book. We all dream of hitting the bestseller list. Of course! Even the ones who said they don’t want it. But to have it happen? It felt surreal. Like, no-way-this-is-not-happening-am-I-dreaming surreal.
I loved hitting #1 in Science Fiction Romance, but what was even more wild was making the top 10 in Science Fiction where male authors usually dominate. My favorite sci-fi authors are Margaret Atwood and Ursula K. LeGuin, but science fiction is still mostly thought of as a male category read by male fans. I didn’t know if there was room for a love story set in a speculative world written by someone who looks like me. And I’m so happy to know that, yes there is room.
I have been told that making the best seller list is like winning an award. I can now call myself an “Amazon bestselling author” and RESET an “Amazon best seller.” I’m looking into having a t-shirt made (not really, but that would be funny.)
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who bought, read, reviewed, and/or recommended my book.
